Every year at this time, the Herald is among those newspapers that runs the perennial kids' version of cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving.
As hilarious as these are to read, of course none are more cherished than the recipes offered by our own children and the children we happen to know personally.
So I must give a classroom-sized applause to Miss Susan Lindsey, my son's kindergarten teacher at Jackson Elementary School, who compiled a book of responses from her students titled “How to Cook a Turkey,” and sent a copy home to all us parents.
Thanks Miss Lindsey! What an extra effort and what a pleasure to receive. We'll be sharing this treat with relatives over the long weekend.
And so here is Dashiell's first turkey recipe. He was not prepped at all. You are all welcome to send along yours from your little cooks:
“Go to a bakery and get a turkey. It will cost $4.00, I think. It will weigh 40 pounds. Take it home and put it in the oven. Turn the oven on 4 and cook it for 10 minutes. It will look nice and brown. Take it out of the oven and put it on a plate and then you cut it up with a knife. Then you can eat it. You can have some cheese and crackers with it. You can have some vanilla ice cream with it. That is the only kind of ice cream that we have. Have your family come to eat Thanksgiving with you. My uncle from New York is coming to my house.”
