SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's basketball team has reportedly received a verbal commitment from one of the top international big men entering the Class of 2010.
Enes Kanter, a 6-foot-9 center who was raised in Turkey but currently plays for a prep school team in California, has made a verbal commitment to UW, according to a story first reported by The Seattle Times.
Kanter was MVP of the Under-18 European Championships after averaging 33.5 points and 22.5 rebounds per game in the final two games of the tournament.
Draftexpress.com projects Kanter as the 11th pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Another website, NBAdraft.net, projects him as the 19th pick in that draft.
Kanter, who is 17 years old, reportedly turned down multi-million-dollar contracts from European teams to play at a U.S. prep school. He originally committed to play for the infamous Findlay Prep School in Las Vegas but now plans to spend this season playing at Stoneridge School in California.
Kanter will likely join Desmond Simmons in the Huskies' 2010 recruiting class. Simmons, a California native, officially signed a letter of intent last week.
The Huskies have reportedly missed out on this state's top recruit. Kentwood big man Josh Smith has given UCLA a verbal commitment but has yet to officially sign with the school.
