Let's talk turkey

Posted at 12:01 am by Jon Bauer, Herald staff

Bath time, Tom: Butterball's Turkey-Talk hotline is back with advice for holiday cooks who want to know if it's OK to thaw their bird in the bathtub while the kids are taking a shower or cook their turkey using the oven's cleaning cycle.

The answer to both is no. Only the family dog will enjoy bathing with a 20-pound turkey. And the cleaning cycle should only be used for a crispy texture on brussels sprouts.

  • Keep your eye on the pork products: Celebrity chef and Food Network star Paula Deen was hit in the face with a ham as she helped unload meat at an Atlanta food bank.

Deen, known for her recipes for Southern comfort food, didn't see the ham coming. It's never been a problem for The Buzz. Any time food is thrown in our direction, we're able to catch it in our teeth.

  • We're staying home for “It's a Wonderful Life”: Among your choices for the day after Thanksgiving: Fight traffic and fellow shoppers to get Black Friday deals, or go to see films like “The Road,” about a father and son trying to stay a step ahead of cannibals in a post-apocalyptic world.

On second thought, both choices sound like the same thing.
