NFL NOTEBOOK

Warner may miss start

TEMPE, Ariz. — Kurt Warner went through another full practice on Friday, but the Arizona quarterback was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Tennessee. Warner practiced all week after sustaining a concussion in last Sunday’s 21-13 victory at St. Louis. He passed all the required mental tests on Tuesday. Warner and Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt have said they plan to be cautious as they deal with the head injury. In addition to the concussion, Warner has had tightness in his neck. He has started 41 consecutive games for Arizona. If he doesn’t go, Matt Leinart is the backup.

Two questionable for Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills starting defensive tackle Marcus Stroud and starting cornerback Terrence McGee are questionable for Sunday’s game against Miami. Both Stroud and McGee are nursing knee injuries, and both missed last week’s loss at Jacksonville. Rookie safety Jairus Byrd (groin) is also questionable, while left tackle Demetrius Bell won’t play because of a lingering knee injury. Meanwhile, rookie right guard Eric Wood has returned to Buffalo after having surgery in Jacksonville to repair two broken bones in his left leg. Wood had surgery hours after he was hurt in the loss to the Jaguars last Sunday, and stayed in Jacksonville for three days as a precaution.

Roth had falling out in Miami

BEREA, Ohio — New Cleveland Browns linebacker Matt Roth is happy to be out of Miami after what he termed a falling out with the Dolphins. Roth was claimed off waivers by the Browns this week after totaling 158 tackles and 121/2 sacks in five seasons in Miami. He started a career-high 14 games last season, three years after the Dolphins selected him in the second round of the draft. Roth says the Dolphins questioned whether he was really hurt after he missed all of training camp with a groin injury. “I’ve got five more weeks and then I’m a free agent,” Roth said. “It’s one of those things where the writing was on the wall. Neither party was happy, so it’s best to go our separate ways.”

Manning listed as probable

INDIANAPOLIS — Peyton Manning has returned to full practice from an injury to his backside and is probable for Sunday’s AFC South game at Houston. Manning had seen limited work Wednesday and Thursday before participating in the full workout on Friday.

Two Jets sidelined

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets cornerbacks Dwight Lowery and Donald Strickland will not play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday because of injuries. Lowery has a high ankle sprain, suffered last Sunday in the loss at New England. He will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by Lito Sheppard. Justin Miller, inactive the last two games, will also likely take over on kickoff returns. Strickland, a key backup, suffered a concussion against the Patriots when he was hit hard by tackle Mark LeVoir on a block.

Schwartz stands by decision

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz isn’t second-guessing his decision to start Matthew Stafford. “No second thoughts at all,” Schwartz said Friday, a day after his rookie quarterback threw four interceptions in a 34-12 loss to Green Bay. “Him throwing the interceptions had nothing to do with his shoulder.” Stafford separated his left, non-throwing shoulder at the end of a Nov. 22 game against Cleveland, but after a penalty returned to throw a touchdown pass with no time on the clock to secure a 38-37 win over the Browns. It was one of five touchdowns for the first pick in the 2009 NFL draft.

Andrews gets second opinion

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Eagles guard Shawn Andrews, hoping to avoid a second back surgery in two years, saw another specialist in Dallas to get another opinion on an injury that has sidelined him for the past two seasons. Eagles coach Andy Reid said that Andrews, who went on injured reserve before the start of the season, was seeking more information on what is becoming a career-threatening injury. Andrews has played just six quarters of football the past two seasons. He went on injured reserve with the back injury after the second game of the 2008 season. He came back and took part in the Eagles’ minicamp in the spring. But his back injury flared up during a drill on the first day of training camp. He missed all of camp and was placed on injured reserve before the season.

Falcons’ Turner questionable

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner got limited work in practice this week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay. Turner, the Falcons’ leading rusher, sustained a high right ankle sprain against Carolina on Nov. 15 and sat out last week’s loss to the New York Giants. The Falcons (5-5) have lost four of five, but have the next three games at home, beginning with the Buccaneers (1-9). Jerious Norwood, who had been Turner’s backup, also was listed as questionable even though he’s been a full participant in practice coming back from a hip injury.
