Investigator arrived drunk at scene of deadly DUI, police allege MARYSVILLE – A Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s investigator summoned Sunday night to help gather evidence in the deaths of four people in a drunken driving crash was arrested at the scene and cited for driving under the influence, officials said this afternoon.When the investigator arrived at the crash scene, a Washington State Patrol trooper smelled alcohol on the man’s breath and pulled him aside, trooper Keith Leary said. The man, 48, of Seattle, was arrested for investigation of drunken driving, Leary said. He had been driving a county-owned vehicle. The man was cited and provided a ride home. The crime scene investigation was not compromised, Leary said. “We have nothing but the utmost faith in the medical examiner’s office,” Leary said. Still, “We have to treat everyone the same when it comes to drinking and driving.” Sunday’s crash was the deadliest drunken driving-related incident in Snohomish County in recent memory, officials said. |

This is one reason I hate on-call work. You're at home on the holidays with family and friends, have a drink or two, and then the pager goes off. If the county or employers what someone to be ready 24/7, then staff it that way. Don't expect someone to give up their life for a 40 hour paycheck.

Are you serious? How disrespectful can you be to the people that parrised in this accident? They were hit by a drunk driver that was three times the legal limit. When a person is on-call, they know they can be called out at any time. Would it really have inconvenienced this person to not drink for the time they are on call, knowing they can be called away at any time? At least have the decency to have someone else drive you. I know I wouldn't want anyone that smelled of alcohol standing over me when I had expired. You should really take a good look at what you say before you say it. That's just wrong!

Are you insane? I agree with Rose on this one. How insensitive can a person be to show up at a fatal accident scene drunk? Being on call is inconvenient. I know I didn't like it when I was on call (I investigated fatal car accidents by the way). The problem is that this guy, if he was on call, is compensated quite well by Snohomish County. If he doesn't like on call status then he should find another job. The problem is, they might actually expect an hones days work for an honest days pay.

Most people that I know who were arrested for dui were not taken to jail. Most are charged and released until court, and or do the mandatory 24 hours in jail. That would also probably depend if they have warrants, then they would go to jail.

The drunk and cited medical examiner was given a ride home???? Why did he not go to jail like all the other drunk drivers??? We all know the answer to that don't we? Government employees are special.
