    PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Snohomish falls by 2 at Mt. Vernon

    MT. VERNON — In a back-and-forth game, Mount Vernon came from behind to defeat Snohomish 65-63 in the boys basketball season opener for both teams.

    Mt. Vernon's Jake Weber-Koetje led all scorers with 24, and had a 3-pointer with a minute and a half remaining in the game to put Mount Vernon up for good.

    Luke Hamlin (19 points) and Trevor Carlson (18 points) helped the Panthers to an early lead. But Mt. Vernon outscored Snohomish 20-13 in the decisive fourth quarter.

    “It's a good first game,” Snohomish head coach Len Bone said. “We don't like to lose, but it's a good first game.”

    Kamiak 66 Archbishop Murphy 53: Andrew Makori led all scorers with 20 points, Connor Conrad had 12 points and Jared Houghtaling had six points and 12 rebounds to lead Kamiak to the non-conference win. Jared McCann had 16 points for Murphy, which also had strong performances by Zach Smith (12 points) and Paris Felder (13 points). The duo accounted for 14 of the Wildcats' 22 first-half points.
