Somebody is out there

And they have a proposition for you: A school district employee in Arizona resigned when software he put on school computers to help find extraterrestrial life, bogged down the computers. It could cost $1 million to fix the system.

It wasn't a complete loss for the Arizona man, who later translated a message left on one of the computers from the widow of the former ruler of the planet Nigerious 5 seeking his help in transferring 32 million quatloos off her home world, for which he would be amply compensated.

  • “Gilligan's Island” reruns are OK, though: Iran's state television says it will ban makeup for women, “abnormal” music and unruly children in its broadcasts.

That's good news for the producers of the hit Iranian show, “Project Burqa” but bad news for producers of “Iran's Got Talent” and “Abbas and Fareeza Plus Eight.”

  • Hear that, Drudge? The Pulitzer Prize board is loosening the rules for its journalism prize, saying blogs that primarily publish opinion and links to other Web sites can enter their work.

In addition, new categories have been added, such as “best use of LOL and OMG,” “best rehash of a newspaper story” and “funniest link to a YouTube video of a cat playing a piano.”
