FINISH LINE: Another Vikings lead-foot

Speed 2

At least two Minnesota Vikings feel the need for speed. Or perhaps they’re just channeling Vin Deisel from those bad Fast and Furious movies.

Minnesota authorities say Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian has been cited for driving 104 mph in a 60-mph zone. The ticket came a couple days after police clocked teammate Adrian Peterson going 109 mph in a 55-mph area.

Minnesota State Patrol Capt. Matt Langer said Saturday that Berrian was cited for speeding on I-694 in Oakdale about 9:40 p.m. Monday. Peterson was pulled over in his BMW Nov. 28

Berrian’s traffic stop came th night after the Vikings beat the Chicago Bears 36-10. Berrian caught six passes in that game for 74 yards.

The state trooper, who didn’t realize who he had pulled over, said Berrian over was polite and cooperative.

“It is a little bit odd, but on the other hand,” Langer said about two Vikings being caught going so fast within days of each other. “I like the publicity about it, because it sort of tells people here are the ramifications, first of all. And you’re going to get caught.”

Both players will lose their driver’s licenses for six months because Minnesota law requires revocation for driving faster than 100 mph.

PARTING SHOT

“He’s a jerk. You can put that in the paper.”

— Shani Davis

The star U.S. speedskater taking comedian Stephen Colbert to task for the running anti-Canada gag he features on his Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report.” Davis is angry even though Colbert helped raise $300,000 for U.S. Speedskating when its previous sponsor filed for bankruptcy.
