‘Queensr˙che’ of beers launched by Everett brewer

Lazy Boy Brewing in Everett is launching a rock-star-inspired beer at a public event Friday — a beer fans of Queensr˙che should be on board with. The beer is called Whip Ale, and it’s named for and created by Queensr˙che guitarist Michael “Whip” Wilton. He’ll be at the Friday launch party at Valhalla in Kirkland to initiate the new brew into Lazy Boy’s lineup. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Whip Ale is a locally brewed pale ale. “Michael researched the ingredients and put this recipe together himself,” said a Lazy Boy statement. The beer will be available for retail purchase next year.

Low U.S. dollar means boost for U.S. exports

The economic recovery is likely to draw strength from exports such as farm products, autos, aircraft and industrial machinery — all of which helped lower the nation’s trade deficit in October. Exports of U.S. goods rose for a sixth straight month. Further gains in exports should bolster manufacturers, who struggled during the recession. Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc., for instance, has predicted that its sales will rise next year, reflecting in part greater demand from China and other Asian markets. Economists noted that much of the improvement in the trade gap reflected a fall in oil imports. But David Resler, chief economist at Nomura Securities, said U.S. exporters are benefiting from a weaker dollar.

Holiday travel likely to drop this year

Air travel over the holidays will fall 2.5 percent from last year, a trade group for the nation’s major carriers predicted Thursday. The Air Transport Association of America said it expects 41 million passengers to fly on U.S. airlines over a 21-day period from Dec. 17 through Jan. 6. The busiest travel days are expected to be the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday after Christmas — Dec. 26-28 — the group said. James C. May, president of the transport group, said the lighter traffic over the holidays would continue a trend that has been seen throughout 2009, as the weak economy has cut travel demand.

McDonald’s adds $1 breakfast items

McDonald’s says it will begin selling a variety of breakfast items for $1 beginning in January. A spokeswoman for the world’s largest hamburger chain says the five breakfast items will be available on the company’s popular Dollar Menu early next month. The dishes include a Sausage McMuffin, a sausage burrito, a sausage biscuit, a small coffee and hash brown patties. The move comes as McDonald’s tries to fight a slide in U.S. sales.

Coke, Costco end price spat

Coca-Cola Co. products will soon be available again in Costco stores now that a pricing dispute with the wholesale club operator has been settled. Costco Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti told investors during an earnings conference call Thursday.
