New head for Northwest SBA office

Posted at 1:16 pm by Amy Rolph

Federal Small Business Administration programs and services in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska have a new taskmaster. SBA Administrator Karen Mills recently appointed Calvin Goings as regional administrator for the area.

“Both the SBA and small businesses of the Pacific Northwest will benefit greatly from Calvin's career in public service and commitment to community development,” Mills said. “With his background as a small business advocate and business leader, Calvin will be a tremendous asset for small businesses and entrepreneurs across the region, especially at this critical time when so many are facing tough challenges as a result of the recession.”

Goings, currently the senior adviser to the president at the Washington Credit Union League, said he's looking forward to supporting "the President's vision for bolstering our economy one small business at a time.” He's a former Pierce County fire commissioner, Pierce County council member and state senator.

The regional office, headquartered in Seattle, oversees the SBA's district offices in Seattle and Spokane, Portland, Boise, and Anchorage. Read more here.
