See the holiday light spectacle at Warm Beach

WARM BEACH — The Christmas spirit here shines a million lights bright this weekend.

Hundreds of people from all over Western Washington braved the cold Saturday evening to attend the annual Lights of Christmas festival at the Warm Beach Camp.

They were greeted by colorful electric flowers in full bloom, reindeer leaping across the grounds, snowy mountain peaks glowing in the background and hundreds of other displays spread throughout 15 acres at the camp.

Dave Cloke of Everett, with 10-month-old Rowan on his back, stopped to look at the waterfall cascading in blue strings from more than 20 feet high. Rowan was peeking from behind his dad's shoulder, smiling from ear to ear at the electrical wonder.

Cloke, who came with his wife and in-laws, was visiting the festival for the first time. They were just getting into it 30 minutes after they arrived.

“We are just scratching the surface here,” Cloke said.

Nearby, people warmed their hands by a firepit, one of many spread throughout the grounds. Visitors could enjoy music, theater, snacks, pony rides and a petting zoo. A train called the Polar Express whistled its way past the elaborate displays.

Lynne Potter of Silvana found the details delightfully inventive, especially the frog leaping out of the pond and the bees flying out of their beehive.

“The fun things are the little things,” she said. She also marveled at the display of electric waves crashing against a lighthouse with dolphins leaping out of water.

“It's very stunning, all the wonderful colors and lights,” Potter said.

She came with her mom, Evelyn Potter of Whidbey Island; friends Terri Snider and Toni Rush; and their mother, Francis Rush of Stanwood.

They wanted to come to the festival last year, but the four feet of snow that fell at their farm in Silvana made it impossible to get out, Toni Rush said. They hope to come again next year.

Near the entrance gate, Molly McPherson, 16, and Larry Dillon, 18, of Mill Creek were taking a photo of themselves against a sea of lights. Dillon, a student at Edmonds Community College, invited McPherson, who goes to Jackson High School, to join his family. He was set on making sure McPherson got a taste of the freshly made doughnuts, no matter how long the lines.

Warm Beach is ok, but Leavenworth is better!
I went one year to warm beach...did get a free sleigh ride (Which Leavenworth doesn't have for free)The lights are beautiful, but Leavenworth doesn't charge you a rediculous amount to get in without much to do! (The lights are cool, but after that there's not much, and anything else is rediculously expensive and the doughnuts that everyone was bragging about were overpriced and not that great, even when they were hot.The entertainment was pretty much non existant or shody. Leavenworth has a free "Live Nativity" and free hot chocolate and cookies (I am not a resident or paid endorser;) I just love going there...) My daughter is here for the last year before she goes to college and thats where were going. The food there can be a lil overpriced, but there are so many cool shops and a lot going on, including the town lighting, its beautiful.
