Take a gander at a good deed at Langley grocery
Goose Community Grocer (a cute name for a food store) is making an impact in its community.
The store, which opened in September at 14485 Highway 525 in Langley, is donating a five-minute shopping spree this afternoon.
Good Cheer Food Bank Manager Damien Cortez will race to grab everything he can to benefit families in need during the holiday season.
Good Cheer is the only food bank on South Whidbey Island and serves more than 775 families.
Goose Community Grocer donated the five-minute shopping spree in August for an auction fundraiser sponsored by the Greater Freeland Chamber of Commerce. The winning bidders, Ed and Chris Halloran of Bayview, decided to donate their shopping spree to the food bank for the holiday season.

Carrie Dane of Marysville was smart to check her mail.
Marysville Ford sent out 30,000 contest letters. Two grand prizes were offered of either a 2010 Ford Focus or $15,000.
Dane is the first grand prize winner and chose the cash option. There are also prizes of shopping sprees and shopping cards.
Perhaps you might want to go through the recycle bin.

A Merlin wonders: Has anyone seen a merlin?
Margit Merlin is a bird watcher. She says she's about 99 percent sure she spotted a merlin recently at her Marysville home.
A merlin is a small falcon native to the Northern Hemisphere.
Merlin says the apparent merlin was making an ungodly noise from a rhododendron bush in her yard.
“Out flies a merlin, sitting on a fence for a while -- at least, I think it was a merlin, which is quite amusing, as my last name is Merlin.”
Quite amusing.
She isn't sure if Marysville is home for the swift, small falcon.
“Naturally I am very excited that there seems to be another merlin in this town.”

Carolyn Rawe of Stanwood did a wonderful deed -- almost.
She is a member of a group called Chihuahua Rescue and Referral. Rawe was getting ready to drive to Walla Walla to rescue four dogs that were neglected and near death.
Before she buckled her seat belt, members of the organization found enough money to take the dogs to a veterinarian near Walla Walla.
One dog died.
One dog found a home and two are in foster care.
It's probably good that Rawe did not take in the dogs.
She has six at home already.
