Hooper's 3-pointer lifts Denver to 84-83 victory over Seattle U.
DENVER -- Andrew Hooper hit a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left and Denver overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat Seattle 84-83 Tuesday night.
Charles Garcia failed to get off a shot for the Redhawks (6-7) as time expired.
Hooper, who had five points, hit the game-winning shot after Peter Harris made only 1-of-2 free throws for Seattle.
Nate Rohnert had a career-high 34 points for Denver (9-3), which trailed 64-48 with 11:56 left. Denver has won eight straight at home.
Garcia, the nation's sixth leading scorer, didn't start the game because of missing a team practice but finished with 24 points in 23 minutes.
Chris Gweth added 18 points for Seattle.
Garcia got hot early in the second half, scoring seven points, including a put-back dunk to push the Redhawks up 52-39.
Sabatino Chen accounted for eight points during a 17-5 run that got the Pioneers within 69-65 with 6:17 to go.
Garcia's jumper from the free-throw line put Seattle up 75-67 with 3:44 left.
Brian Stafford's layup cut it to 82-81 with 11 seconds remaining. Harris made one free throw after he was fouled with 4.7 seconds left.
Garcia entered the game with 17:30 left in the first half and quickly made his presence felt with two free throws, a two-handed dunk and a blocked shot. Foul trouble limited Garcia to only 13 minutes and nine first-half points but Gweth (13 points) and Jones (11) picked up the slack.
