Gruesome injury delays UW game
SEATTLE -- A gruesome leg injury to a Texas A&M player delayed Tuesday night's University of Washington game for about 10 minutes.
Aggies senior Derrick Roland appeared to suffer a compound fracture to his lower right leg in the opening minutes of the second half. Trainers from both schools immediately ran onto the court while the game was still going on to attend to him.
Roland appeared to hurt himself when he came down awkwardly under the Texas A&M basket. The injury was so gruesome that the entire Aggie bench turned away and faced the crowd.
Roland was eventually taken off the court on a stretcher. Several teammates were visibly shaken by the incident.
UW was leading 34-33 with 17 1/2 minutes left when play finally resumed.
UW officials said that Roland was in stable condition after being transported to Harborview Medical Center.
