MOBILE HOME PARKS

Tenants need help to protect homes

Thank you for publicizing the dilemma of the owner and the tenants of the Three Rivers Mobile Home Park. (Sunday article, “Monroe mobile homes sit in limbo.”)

Also, thank you again for the support of the Snohomish County Council for its sensitivity toward badly needed affordable housing in Snohomish County. The council recognizes mobile home parks as an alternative measure in answer to much needed housing; this is why they approved the Snohomish County resolution allowing all mobile home parks in an incorporated areas of Snohomish County be zoned as mobile home parks.

As a community organizer and the original advocate in saving two mobile home parks in Lynnwood, I have a very strong feeling that the support of the community churches to save and help the tenants is a very positive step. Also, the state of Washington has a weatherization program to help the tenants to prepare to save their homes. Fund raising is also an option to get sandbags and other expenses along the way.

The tenants need to organize themselves as a nonprofit homeowners association and Columbia Legal Services in Seattle can help for free. The Three Rivers tenants must be encouraged that the value of their homes to them is as much as the dream homes along the non-flood roads.
