Browns' Quinn done for final 2 games of season
BEREA, Ohio — Crutches by his side and his left foot in a protective boot, quarterback Brady Quinn stared at the ground as his teammates practiced.
This wasn't the ending he imagined.
Quinn's uneven season is over, and so is his chance to impress new Browns president Mike Holmgren.
Quinn was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with an unspecified foot injury, the second straight season he has finished on IR. He got hurt while scrambling for 24 yards in the fourth quarter of Cleveland's 41-34 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Browns coach Eric Mangini gave no specifics about Quinn's injury but said his recovery could “take a little while.” Mangini said the team did not yet know if surgery was necessary and that it was unclear on film how Quinn, who was tripped up as he neared the sideline, was injured.
Quinn's injury will keep him out of Cleveland's final two games, which will be played with Holmgren newly on board after agreeing to join the struggling franchise as team president.
With Quinn out, Derek Anderson will start on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. It's yet another beginning for Anderson, the former Pro Bowler who went 1-4 in five starts after Quinn was benched 10 quarters into the season.
Bills place CB McGee on IR
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bills cornerback Terrence McGee is done for the season, and it's suddenly unclear who'll start at quarterback this weekend after injuries forced Buffalo to re-sign former third-stringer Gibran Hamdan. McGee was placed on injured reserve a day before he's scheduled to have surgery to repair his right rotator cuff. The starter becomes the 16th Bills player placed on the season-ending list after he was hurt in a 17-10 loss to New England. Hamdan, who was released by Buffalo in November, was re-signed after starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and backup Trent Edwards both hurt their ankles last weekend. That leaves Buffalo with four quarterbacks on its roster, including untested second-year player Brian Brohm.
Steelers sign Galloway
PITTSBURGH — Wide receiver Joey Galloway has been added to the Pittsburgh Steelers' roster as the replacement for Limas Sweed.
Sweed was placed on injured reserve Monday with a non-football related illness. Coach Mike Tomlin would not reveal any details of Sweed's condition. Galloway was cut by New England earlier this season after catching seven passes for 67 yards. The former Ohio State receiver has 689 catches for a 15.6 average during an NFL career that began in 1995, but he hasn't had a TD catch since making six for Tampa Bay in 2007.
Chargers put Mruczkowski on IR
SAN DIEGO — Center Scott Mruczkowski was placed on injured reserve Tuesday by the San Diego Chargers, meaning his season is over. Mruczkowski injured his right ankle during the game-winning drive in Sunday's 27-24 victory against Cincinnati. Mruczkowski started the last 13 games at center after Nick Hardwick hurt an ankle in the season opener at Oakland, requiring surgery. Hardwick might return in Friday night's game at Tennessee.
Saints waive Carney
METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints have cut kicker John Carney, a 21-year NFL veteran who signed with the Saints in August for his second stint with team. Tuesday's move came after Carney, who played in 11 games, had been inactive for the past two while Garrett Hartley took over as placekicker.
