U.S. 2 is blocked after semi truck loses 80,000-pound load

INDEX — A jackknifed semi truck was blocking U.S. 2 west of Index in both directions earlier this evening.

The eastbound semi jackknifed at milepost 34 about 3:30 p.m. and lost one of its parts, an 80,000-pound girder, according to the Washington State Patrol.

State transportation crews were on their way with a crane to clean up the mess.

Nobody got hurt, but traffic backed up for miles as the highway remained closed in both directions.
