Grammy-award-winning acoustic instrumental artists Tingstad and Rumbel will bring their blend of guitar and woodwinds to Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in Langley at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The touring team of Grammy Award-winning musical duo Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel spend a lot of time on the road, but during the holidays, they put a brake on their travel and keep their acoustic style closer to their Seattle-area home.

One of their local stops will be this weekend when they fill Whidbey Island Center for the Arts with their distinctive blend of Americana fingerstyle guitar, double reeds and the ocarina, a flutelike instrument.

Joining them this season is bassist Garey Shelton.

The duo’s repertoire has been described as festive and reverent, solemn and lively.

Tingstad and Rumbel have shared their music for 25 years. They first collaborated in 1985, recording their debut holiday classic CD “The Gift.” In 1998, their “American Acoustic” was honored as “Acoustic Instrumental Album of the Year” and a Carnegie Hall appearance followed in 2000. In 2003 they received a Grammy Award for “Acoustic Garden.”

Their 19th collaboration, “Leap of Faith,” was released in January and is expected to be available for purchase during the concert.

The two continue to produce virtuoso American finger-style guitar with melodic woodwinds inspired by music from America, Asia, the British Isles and Spain. Reviewers have said their music speaks from the heart and encourages an appreciation for community and stewardship.

Tingstad and Rumbel will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Tickets are $25. Call 360-221-8268 or go to www.wicaonline.com.

The show is recommended for ages 10 and older.
