Former pro football player launches bid to unseat Murray

Clint Didier, who played in three Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins, will formally launch his campaign against incumbent U.S. Sen. Patty Murray next week.

Didier, a Republican businessman and farmer, will hold rallies and fundraisers Jan. 11 in Everett and Spokane and Jan. 12 in Pasco.

The event in Everett is scheduled to run from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Weyerhauser Room at Everett Station, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

A press release issued Sunday said Didier has a “Game Plan for Washington” and is running “to bring responsibility and accountability back to Washington, D.C., and to protect our national security from all enemies foreign or domestic.”

Didier, 50, played tight end for eight seasons in the National Football League, six with the Redskins and two with the Green Bay Packers.

He is the sixth Republican to enter the race against Murray. The others include Sean Corey Salazar of Mountlake Terrace, Craig Lewis Williams, Rodney Joe Rieger, Wayne Glover and Arthur Coday Jr.
