BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Generous donors make holiday fun for kids

This holiday season has been an amazing one for the Snohomish Boys and Girls Club. The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming and we are very grateful.

At the end of October, we announced a new “Adopt a Sock” program. Our goal was to have 80 stockings “adopted” by community members to pass on to local Boys and Girls Club children.

The project was a huge success and we were able to hand out 114 stockings. Each child who received a stocking also received at least one other toy. Although we cannot thank each person who filled a stocking, there are a few groups that we would like to thank: Delta Rehabilitation, Valley General, city of Snohomish, Snohomish Rotary, Snohomish Kiwanis, Soroptimists of Everett, Snohomish Chamber of Commerce and Tip Traders.

We would also like to thank the many individual families who took this project on as a way to teach their children the gift of giving. We were pleased to hear how many children were able to take part in giving to another. Because our project was so successful, we were also able to donate five boxes of gifts to a local school.

On Dec. 12, we hosted the First Annual Santa Breakfast at the Club. A special thank you to Lisa Saunders for sewing holiday aprons for the event. Thank you to Costco, Fred Meyer, Snoho Mojo, JoAnn Carlson, and William Fultan, CPA, for donations for the event. A huge thank you to the fabulous Snohomish Kohl’s A-Team for volunteering to set up, clean up, flip pancakes, serve our guests, and mostly for your fun and giving attitudes. What an amazing group. And of course we could not have done it without Dallas Van Dyke, aka the real Santa.

We were also the lucky recipients of a holiday gift from Tim Noah and Cyndi Elliot of the Thumbnail Theatre. On Dec. 22, we were able to take 46 children to the Cyndi Soup and Tim Noah Presentation of the “Holiday Sensation Decoration Celebration.” The hour-long show full of puppets, singing and dancing was a great way to get the kids in the holiday spirit. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us.

As the year comes to a close, we are so thankful to be a part of a community that continues to show its support for youth. Thank you for always helping us be the Positive Place for Kids in Snohomish! Just wait until you see what we have in store for 2010!
