Driver dies as stolen car crashes in Bothell
BOTHELL – A man died this morning after a stolen car he was driving crashed into a utility pole as it was being pursued by a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy.
A Honda Civic was reported stolen around 1 a.m. from an apartment complex in the 600 block of 128th Street SW in unincorporated Everett, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
A short time later a deputy spotted the stolen car and followed it into the Walmart parking lot on 164th Street SW, Hover said.
When the deputy tried to stop the car, the driver sped off. The deputy gave pursuit.
The police chase went southbound on North Road into unincorporated Bothell when the stolen car went into a pole near Bellflower Road, Hover said.
“He was speeding,” she said.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died, she said. His identity has not been released. No one else was in the car.
