Study: Boeing, Microsoft produce half of Wash.'s new jobs

The Boeing Co. and Microsoft produced directly or indirectly almost half of Washington state's new job growth from 2004 to 2008, according to a new study out about Washington state's competitiveness.

During those years, of course, Boeing was ramping up for its new 787 Dreamliner jet and its 747-8 jumbo jet. The company trimmed 4,065 employees from its Washington workforce last year.

For more about the study and a separate report on the challenges facing Washington's aerospace industry, see today's story.
