How to donate to Haiti relief efforts
Here is how people can donate to agencies that will provide relief for people in Haiti. An earthquake devastated the capital on Tuesday, killing tens of thousands in one of the most impoverished nations in the Western Hemisphere.
To Donate
Many organizations are raising money to help in Haiti.
The American Red Cross. Mobile phone users can text “Haiti” to 90999 to make a $10 donation or call the local chapter at 425-252-4103.
ShelterBoxUSA, the U.S. arm of an international disaster response charity founded by a Rotary Club in the United Kingdom, is gearing up to send aid to the thousands left homeless by the quake. Donate at www. shelterboxusa.org.
Each box costs $1,000 and contains a tent, cook stoves, water purification supplies, blankets and sleeping bags, enough to shelter a family of 10.
UNICEF, the United Nations children’s fund, has worked in Haiti since 1949.
