PAC-10 NOTEBOOK: Pondexter makes Husky history
Senior forward Quincy Pondexter journeyed to where no other University of Washington men’s basketball players have gone before.
After averaging 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in a pair of wins, Pondexter became the first Husky to earn a fourth Pac-10 Player of the Week honor in a single season. He matched the conference record for awards in a season, joining Oregon State’s Gary Payton (1988-89), Arizona’s Chris Mills (1992-93), UCLA’s Ed O’Bannon (1994-95) and Arizona State’s Eddie House (1999-2000).
Pondexter had a game-high 30 points in a win over Arizona last Thursday, then added 17 points and seven rebounds in Saturday’s win over Arizona State.
WSU’s Cook earns honor
The women’s player of the week was Washington State sophomore April Cook, who scored 33 points in helping the Cougars snap a 13-game Pac-10 losing streak by beating Arizona State over the weekend.
Cook is the first WSU player to earn Player of the Week honors this season.
Rogers (bone bruise) to practice
The Huskies announced that women’s basketball player Regina Rogers has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in her knee.
Rogers suffered the injury over the weekend and is expected to practice this week.
The UW women host Stanford on Friday and Cal on Sunday.
