Gold Bar to party like it’s 1910

GOLD BAR — Time to pull out the birthday candles and one very big cake.
Gold Bar will mark its 100th anniversary this year with a series of celebrations.
While plans are still coming together, the fun may begin at an annual Memorial Day picnic, and then carry on during Gold Dust Days, the town’s summer celebration.
“We’ll stick ‘centennial’ in front of everything,” Mayor Joe Beavers said.
Officials will meet at the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce in Sultan tonight to discuss plans for Gold Dust Days, which usually takes place in late July. The discussion may brush up against other centennial events.
Along with an anniversary theme, Gold Dust Days may again include a motorcycle and car show, artisan gift booths and a visit from the Washington Prospectors Mining Association.
Beavers emphasized that the centennial events will be powered by the community. He compared Gold Bar to Mayberry, N.C., in “The Andy Griffith Show,” with residents involved in everything.
Although planning is under way on the centennial events, it’s not too late to get involved.
“We’re always looking for volunteers, and there are a couple of projects to do,” Beavers said.
Officials are working through the specifics on a third centennial “extravaganza,” Beavers said. That could take place on July 4.
“Our theory is, let’s party like it’s 1910,” Beavers said. “You don’t need a lot of excuses for a party.”
Gold Bar was incorporated in 1910 as a sawmill town along the Great Northern Railway. It now has a population of 2,000 and touts itself as a bedroom community to Snohomish and King counties that provides ample outdoor activities.
