Brian Skinner of Snohomish recently completed the certified arborist examination administered by the International Society of Arboriculture. Skinner owns Skinner Landscape Service Inc. in Snohomish.
Dr. Peter Billing and Dr. Matthew Crouthamel of Puget Sound Surgical Center in Edmonds will give presentations at the Seattle Bash & Weight Loss Surgery Conference from March 11 to 14. Billing will speak about revision surgery to those patients who may have had weight loss surgery in the past but have either never lost weight or have gained the weight back. Crouthamel will share Puget Sound Surgical Center’s results with the sleeve gastrectomy procedure.
Rachel Chambers and Julie Fulcher, students at Evergreen Beauty and Barber College in Everett, won national awards from Nuts and Bolts, an association of cosmetology schools. Chambers took third place in the best cosmetology student bracket, and Fulcher won second place for best esthetic student. They were honored at an event in Long Beach, Calif., on Jan. 30.

Internationally known travel expert Rick Steves of Edmonds will speak at a special event of the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County at noon March 12 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW. Steves will discuss how density has affected urban life in Europe and the lessons we can learn, and how he became a leader in the travel industry. Tickets are $38. China trip: An informational meeting on the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce’s planned trip to China in October is set for 5:30 p.m. March 15 at the Chamber office, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Suite 205. More information: 425-257-3222.
The AARP free tax preparation program is under way from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays until April 15 at the Marysville Public Library, 6120 Grove St.

QuickBooks seminar: The Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce plans a two-part QuickBooks training seminar from 4 to 9 p.m. Feb. 24 and March 3 at the Lake Stevens Fire Station 82 Board Room, 9811 Chapel Hill Road. Cost is $40 for both sessions for Lake Stevens Chamber members and $100 for nonmembers.
