Front Porch: Yes, FDR visited Everett
Franklin Delano Roosevelt can be added to the list of U.S. presidents to visit Snohomish County while serving as the nation’s leader.
In a front-page story on presidential visits Monday, FDR was mentioned as a possible visitor.
Local history buff Larry O’Donnell tracked down a clipping in The Herald about an FDR whistle-stop train visit on Oct. 1, 1937.
Roosevelt said he also stopped in Everett in 1932 when he was making his first run for office.
More than 5,000 people greeted the nation’s chief executive as his train drew to a stop at Pacific Avenue and cheered for him when he left a few minutes later.
Benefit for bike program: Green Everett hosts a benefit for Sharing Wheels Bicycle Co-op (www.sharingwheels.org).
Bowl at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Strawberry Lanes, 1067 Columbia Ave., Marysville.
It costs $7.50 to enter, and try to raise $80 in pledges. There will be door prizes and a raffle.

Art show in Everett: Art created by Northwest artists with disabilities will be on display in No Boundaries: Transcendence through March 19 at Everett Community College’s Russell Day Gallery, 2000 Tower St.
The exhibit includes paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, digital art, mixed media and sculpture by different 22 artists.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The gallery is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
