Here's what some Democrats are thinking on taxes

Related Items

House Speaker Frank Chopp and Rep. Ross Hunter are getting an earful on the subject of raising revenue from members. And they're getting some of it in writing too.

Attached is an 8-page outline of ideas of how to raise more than $1 billion in revenues solely through eliminating tax breaks and clawing back a third of the tax breaks given to the Boeing Co.

It also looks to put a sales tax on lawyers and other professional services.

The highlights as noted at the top of the document:

• Clawback 25% of as many tax incentives where we legally can
• Extend current sales tax to professional services.
• Extend a portion of the Sales/Use tax to areas that are not now paying it
• Can include negotiated state employees concessions as part of this package
• No general sales tax increase
• Everyone must be paying their fair share. There is plenty of revenue to be captured from those who are not paying their fair share

This went to leadership Friday evening after a title-only tax bill appeared online to be formally introduced Sunday.
