Front Porch: Learn how to reduce that storm water

Learn Low-Impact Development for Your Back Yard, a wildlife habitat program, will be offered Wednesday so people can learn how to keep back yards thriving.

It’s planned for 7 p.m. at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive, Camano Island.

Zsofia Pasztor, an organic landscape designer, will discuss ways to reduce storm water runoff and pollution to keep healthy soil and aquifers.

Do-it-yourself projects using old and new landscaping ideas will be discussed.

The program is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks as part of the Island County watershed project.

Borders winner discussed in Mill Creek: Carolyn De Hart will lead a discussion about “The Botany of Desire” by Michael Pollan. Pollan looks at evolution of people and plants. He won Borders Original Voice Award for this book in 2001.

The program is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at Mill Creek Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway, Mill Creek.

Help out Providence Hospice: A free information session to review the volunteer opportunities at Providence Hospice and Home Care is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. April 21 in downtown Everett.

Interested participants must register to get driving and parking information by April 19.
