Special session won't end this week

Lawmakers will be spending Passover together and maybe Easter too.

The Senate and House aren't convening much in the next few days all but guaranteeing the special session won't end this week and probably not until next month. April 13 is the last scheduled day of overtime and Gov. Chris Gregoire she's not inclined call them back.

The state Senate adjourned a short time ago and won't return for any votes until Monday, the first night of Passover.

The House isn't meeting today and is not, at this time, scheduled to have any floor action Friday either. It's possible that chamber will be out till next week too.

(I did chat briefly with House Speaker Frank Chopp. He said there could be a brief session Friday if there are Senate bills that need to be acted on.)

The Senate today did take a small step forward by requesting a conference committee to negotiate an agreement on a tax package. That process cannot formally begin until the House agrees and committee members are named.

Concluding those talks could easily take until Easter Sunday which is April 4.
