League announces NLL video game

National Lacrosse League commissioner George Daniel announced an agreement Wednesday between the league, Crosse Studio and Triple B games for the development of a new indoor lacrosse video game.

The game, titled NLL Lacrosse 2010, Presented by Reebok, is scheduled to be out as a $5 download for the Microsoft Xbox 360 platform on or around April 30. The game can be purchased for a one-time fee through the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Featuring all teams, jerseys and players in the league, Daniel and developer Carlo Sunseri said the game is expected to be the top lacrosse game currently on the market.

"He's very passionate, he's visionary, he's entrepreneurial and we're very excited about partnering with him and his company in bringing an NLL game back to market," Daniel said of Sunseri, who also developed Inside Lacrosse College Lacrosse 2010 also for download on Xbox 360.

Sunseri said the game has been in development for nearly two years and he expects the NLL game to sell more than 100,000 units in a few months, matching the numbers of College Lacrosse 2010.

"The game looks twice as good as College Lacrosse 2010," Sunseri said. "The gameplay is hard-hitting, high-tempo."

"We've had discussions with EA (Sports), we even had a developmental agreement with Activision that we announced in 2004," Daniel said, adding that Activision decided not to move forward on the game. "... They (EA Sports and Activision) feel the potential fan base for the game wasn't big enough."

This isn't the first foray into video games for the league. Back in 2001, Acclaim Sports released Blast Lacrosse which was similar in style to popular games NBA Jam and NFL Blitz.
