Front Porch: Learn about possible Snohomish train excursions
The Snohomish Historical Society, with Historic Downtown Snohomish, will host Doug Engle, chief financial officer with GNP Railway at a Friday meeting.
The meeting is planned for 7 p.m. at the Waltz Building, 116 Ave. B, Snohomish.
Engle will discuss excursion trains in Western Washington and a new rail excursion service that may begin this summer in Snohomish.
“This new excursion service is a wonderful opportunity for downtown Snohomish,” said Kimberly McIlrath, president of Historic Downtown Snohomish. “Every week folks will spend several hours getting to know our shops, restaurants and taverns.”
Refreshments will be provided by Fred's Rivertown Alehouse and Snohomish Bakery.
Summer camp opportunity: A Natural Resources Youth Camp was started in 1983 by experts in wildlife biology, forestry, soil conservation, geology and natural resource management.
The camp has a resident camp manager, camp director, nurse, registrar, recreation coordinator, program coordinator and counselors.
It's planned for June 20 to 26 in Randle, near Mount Rainier, for ages 12 to 16.

Openings at free preschool: The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) offers free preschool around Snohomish County for low-income 3- and 4-year-olds.
