Review of Granite Falls police chief is sought
Granite Falls officials have formally asked the county sheriff for an “internal affairs” investigation.
GRANITE FALLS — The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office has been asked by Granite Falls officials to conduct an “internal affairs” investigation focusing on Police Chief Tony Domish.
The announcement was made Wednesday in a tersely worded press release issued by Thom Graafstra, an attorney for the city. The statement said the investigation concerned “certain alleged actions and inactions” by Domish, and the focus of the review is limited to the chief.
“An internal affairs investigation is not a criminal investigation,” the statement said.
Saleem placed Domish on paid leave on April 23.
Around 700 people in Granite Falls, a town of about 3,000, signed a petition supporting Domish, the city’s police chief since 2006.
The mayor told the Lake Stevens Journal he was upset with Domish for missing council meetings and not telling the mayor when he was leaving town.
Saleem also complained that Domish told reporters about a drug sweep before telling the mayor, although city documents dispute the mayor’s assertions.
Saleem was elected last fall and took office in January.
The relationship between Saleem and Domish has shown strain in the past. In December the two men announced they had met to work out their differences.
Domish will remain on paid leave until the investigation is complete, the statement said.
Officials did not say how long the investigation would take.
