Lindsay Johns of the 6th Day Dance Company performs “Unleashed” in two shows this weekend at the PUD auditorium in Everett.

“Unleashed”: The Seattle-based 6th Day Dance Company will present a set of contemporary dance pieces, some of which share the theme of hope, bring hip hop to the stage and challenge the audience to unleash their imaginations, to Everett this weekend.

In one piece, choreographer Angela Schaefer debuts “The Darkness Due to Want of Light.” The piece has dancers moving from darkness into light. Schaefer uses light bulbs to help illuminate that movement.

“For those of little dust” is a piece choreographed by artistic director Lyndee Breece and Schaefer in which the dancers demonstrate how we are blinded and can’t reach contentment because of the dust caked on our eyes.

On Sunday, Seattle based Sapience Dance Collective will appear with 6th Day performing their piece “Lamentations,” exploring human nature and the search for hope.

Also performing with 6th Day are students from Renton High School who have been learning hip-hop dances as part of a free workshop provided by 6th Day.

6th Day Dance is a nonprofit contemporary dance company that uses professional dance as a basis to partner with youth and others with special needs.

“Unleashed” will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Snohomish County Public Utility District Auditorium, 2320 California St., Everett.

Tickets are $15 and $10. Call 206-406-5465 or contact info@sixthdaydance.org.

“The Mark Morris Dance Group” performs with the Seattle Symphony this weekend.

The symphony will perform Haydn’s Horn Concerto No. 2 in D major, “A Lake”; Bach’s “Jesu, Meine Freude” and Vivaldi’s “Gloria.” The Seattle-based Tudor Choir joins the symphony during the Bach and Vivaldi pieces.

“Gloria” features Morris as a guest conductor.

In 1984, “Gloria” had a revised premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music to which Morris had added a new walk-and-crawl duet choreography to the first movement. The revision was described by The Washington Post as a “swell of music and euphoria.”

Morris is a Seattle native who formed the dance group in 1980 and today performs across the United States and at international festivals.

“Mark Morris Dance Group” performs at 8 tonight, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at The Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St., Seattle.

Tickets start at $37. Call 877-784-4849 or go to www.stgpresents.org.
