Let’s adopt law just like Mexico’s
Last Thursday Mexico’s president, Felipe Calderon, stood before a joint session of Congress, and among other things criticized Arizona’s new immigration law, which happens to mirror our current federal law. I watched in disbelief as Democrat lawmakers, Cabinet members and White House staff gave him standing ovation.
He voiced the same criticism at a joint news conference with President Obama, who shares his views on the matter. Mr. Calderon said that we need to fix a broken and inefficient system. I have a solution for Mr. Calderon. America should adopt the Mexican system, where it is a felony to be an illegal alien. Violators can receive up to two years in jail, after which they are deported. Those caught a second time can receive up to 10 years in prison. If someone is caught aiding an illegal, they can receive up to a six-year term in prison.
If Mr. Calderon feels Arizona’s new law is unfair and harsh to illegal Mexican immigrants, how would he feel if we adopted his laws?
