UW releases men’s basketball schedule

A preseason trip to Hawaii and a trip to Texas highlight the University of Washington men’s basketball team’s 2010-11 schedule, which was released Monday.

The Huskies will be in Lahaina, Hawaii, for the Maui Invitational the week of Thanksgiving — Nov. 22-24 — then they’ll face Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, in December for the only two road trips of the non-conference schedule.

UW won’t get to play against former Husky Elston Turner Jr., who is now at Texas A&M, because the Texas native has to sit out a year under NCAA transfer rules.

The field for the Maui Invitational includes Kentucky and former UW recruits Terrence Jones and Enes Kanter, as well as national powerhouses Michigan State, Connecticut and Oklahoma. Wichita State, Virginia and host Chaminade round out the field.

A Feb. 22 game against Seattle University at KeyArena is also technically an away game, although the Huskies won’t have to travel far.

The non-conference home schedule includes games against McNeese State, Eastern Washington, Texas Tech and Portland.

The Huskies, with four returning starters from last season’s Sweet 16 team, are likely to be ranked in the preseason top 25 polls.
