USA Hockey taps Tips Maxwell
EVERETT Tyler Maxwell is one step away from representing his country at the highest level of junior hockey.
The Everett Silvertips winger was one of 44 players who were invited to attend USA Hockeys national junior evaluation camp this summer, it was announced Thursday. USA Hockey uses the camp to select its team for the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships.
This is the second straight year Maxwell, a 19-year-old who hails from Manhattan Beach, Calif., was invited to the evaluation camp. He was one of just two Western Hockey League players invited to the camp, joining Medicine Hat forward Emerson Etem. This years camp takes place July 30-Aug. 7 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Maxwell is entering his third season with the Tips. Last season he finished second on the team in both points (69) and goals (33).
The 2011 World Juniors take place Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Buffalo, N.Y. The U.S. is the defending gold medalist and has nine players returning from that team.
