The Not-Its are totally it for kids
If you dig kiddie mosh pits, love the sound of Blondie or the B-52s and like tights and skinny ties, you are a parent who will approve of The Not-Its!
The Not-Its! are the newest group to hit the kindie rock scene with the release of their first CD, “We Are The Not-Its!” receiving warm reviews and their newest CD, “Time Out to Rock,” set for release this month.
The group kicks off Everett's summer children's concert series and will bring songs from both of their albums and the rare distinction of being a kindie rock group that has female musicians.
“It's great to have a female playing an instrument,” vocalist Sarah Shannon said. “We'll be up there doing our thing and looking out across the sea of toddlers and it's great to see the girls mimicking us.”
Guitarist and singer Danny Adamson said the group provides good female role models.
“I hear a lot of moms say that for their daughters, it's way cooler for them to see two females up on stage,” Adamson said.
In addition to Shannon and Adamson, the band also has Mike Bayer on drums, Tom Baisden on lead guitar, and bassist and backup singer Nori Hoeft.
The five were all friends before forming the band and they use their collective group of seven children as sounding boards during the song writing process.
You might say their music is adult created, kid approved.
“We strive to do the fun high-energy thing and I think that transfers really well to the kids,” Adamson said. “When we're all up there being pretty crazy, we hit our stride and it's all fun and loud and upbeat.”
The musicians are all products of the '80s and so their music originates from there. The Not-Its! encourage kids to clap and dance and sometimes spin around like a helicopter.
The free Thursday morning children's concert series is held at Thornton A. Sullivan park, 11405 Silver Lake Road, in Everett, next to the playground and runs through Aug. 9.
The lineup:
The Not-Its!: 10 a.m. Thursday.
