Edmonds: School supplies needed
The Back-to-School Resource Fair benefitting the Edmonds School District is looking for school supplies and monetary donations as it prepares for the Aug. 18 event.
Cash donations can help buy haircuts and specific supplies for children. The school also appreciates donated supplies, such as backpacks, pencil pouches and three-ring binders.
Additionally, all school offices in the Edmonds district are closed from now through Aug. 2.
Registration for kindergarten and new students resumes that day.

Everett: Downtown changes approved
City leaders approved several key changes to Everett code that should help businesses in the downtown core.
One change allows the planning director to consider individual applications to use unusual building spaces in ways not normally permitted. Another allows small wineries and distilleries to set up shop as long as they’re located with a restaurant, retail shop or tasting room.
The city already allows micro-breweries downtown and the changes now treat wine and liquor the same as beer. The new rules should be available by request at the city Clerk’s Office at 2930 Wetmore Ave.
The complete ordinances the City Council considered is available online at tiny.cc/pzxxo.
Lake Stevens: National Night Out is Aug. 3
National Night Out is planned for Aug. 3 in Lake Stevens.
The event is scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Lake Stevens.
National Night Out is an annual, nationwide event aimed at discouraging crime by bringing people in the community together.

Mountlake Terrace: Residents get close-up look at police work
Eighteen residents graduated from the Citizens Academy June 30.
Students in the three-month academy rode with an officer on patrol, watched the police dog search for drugs and learned about evidence collection.
