Rossi has ground to cover in money race
Republican Dino Rossi’s late entry into the race against U.S. Sen. Patty Murray didn’t damage his sway among political donors.
The Sammamish resident entered the race May 26 and hauled in $1.4 million by June 30, according to information released Tuesday by his campaign.
Murray, meanwhile, raked in $1.6 million between April 1 and June 30, which is the entire period covered in reports candidates must file by Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.
Murray, a three-term incumbent from Whidbey Island, holds a tremendous advantage on Rossi in available funds at this stage.
She has raised about $11.5 million for this election cycle and had $6.8 million on hand as of July 1, said her deputy campaign manager Alex Glass.
That puts Murray well ahead of her 2004 fundraising pace in which she took in a total of $13 million for her successful campaign against Republican U.S. Rep. George Nethercutt.
Rossi campaign officials didn’t reveal how much he had in the bank but his political history shows he’s capable of generating impressive sums of dough. In 2008, he collected $11.6 million in his second unsuccessful bid for governor.
By late Tuesday, Republicans Clint Didier and Paul Akers had not released information on their latest fundraising efforts.
Information on donors and spending by the campaigns will be in reports to be made public Thursday and posted online at www.fec.gov.
