Former ILFC chief starts new aircraft leasing firm

The Associated Presshas an interesting piece on Steven Udvar-Hazy, the founder of International Lease Finance Corp., and his plans to form Air Lease Corp.

Udvar-Hazy retired from ILFC earlier this year. In 1990, ILFC was bought by insurer AIG, which had to be bailed out by the government last year.

Udvar-Hazy said he has lined up $1.3 billion in equity. His new venture should have 100 airplanes by next spring, he said. That number could rise to between 350 and 500 by 2015.
