Anniversaries
Lyon
Wesley and Juanita Lyon of Arlington will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary next month.
They met in high school and were married Aug. 4, 1950, by the Rev. Levi Larson in Marysville shortly after graduation.
The couple have four children: Cheri Johnsen (Keith); Kevin, and Mark Lyon (Karrie) all of Arlington; and Debbi Lyon-Kirwan (Mark) of Twisp. The couple also has 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He retired in 1994 as a construction contractor and she is a homemaker.
They will be honored from 1 to 5 p.m. July 31 at an open house given by their children at their home in Arlington Heights.
Nienhuis
Dave and Marilyn Nienhuis will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary later this month.
They were married on July 30, 1960, at Ballard First Lutheran Church in Seattle and have lived in Lake Forest Park for more than 40 years.
They have four daughters: Juli Olson of Stanwood; Melanie Spencer of Woodinville; Suzanne Banning of Monroe; and Deanna Khoury of Camano Island, four son-in-laws, and 14 grandchildren.
Their daughters plan to host a 50th anniversary party in Shoreline. The family will continue the celebration in Chelan at Wapato Point.
The couple enjoys camping and traveling and spending their retirement with friends and family.
Trayler
Alfred and Karen Trayler of Kirkland will be honored at a reception celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday.
They were married on July 19, 1985, in Marysville.
The reception will be hosted by family and friends from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center, 514 Delta Ave. in Marysville. There will be a short program at 3 p.m.
Wedding
Campbell
Màiri Andrus and Robert Campbell were married on July 11 at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon.
The matrons of honor were Jann Kajfas-Fisher and Cherie Gilmore. The best men were Trevor Campbell and Michael Roth. The ceremony was an old-fashioned Highland wedding including a bagpiper and sword bearers from Clans Donald and Campbell.
The couple met years ago at the Skagit Valley Highland Games and held their wedding ceremony at this year's Skagit Valley Highland Games.
Campbell proposed last year in a turret of Inveraray Castle while the couple was on vacation in Scotland. He is a member of the Carpenters Union Local 562 in Everett.
The couple resides in Mount Vernon.
Reunion
Klein
The families of John and Carrie Klein celebrated the annual Klein Picnic and Reunion on July 17 at Jim and Bev Klein's home in Marysville.
The residence is located on the property which once belonged to John and Carrie Klein, Jim Klein's great-grandfather.
John Klein was born in Holland in 1868 and came to the United States by ship with his widowed mother and older brother in 1880.
They first settled in South Holland near Chicago, Ill., and he became a naturalized citizen in 1889.
His future wife, Carrie Kroeze, was born in 1869 and came to the United States in 1881. The couple met and married in 1889 in Illinois, then moved to Washington in 1902, settling in the Stillaguamish Valley. The couple worked farms on shares for many years until they were able to buy their own farm.
John and Carrie Klein's direct descendants include their 17 children, 68 grandchildren, 209 great-grandchildren, 432 great-great grandchildren, and 263 great-great-great-grandchildren. Several hundred family members live in the Arlington, and Marysville area and other parts of Snohomish County, many of whom followed the family tradition of dairy farming.
More than 200 people were at the event which was much the same as the first Klein Picnic held in 1966 with a potluck, games and activities for the children and adults.
