New child advocacy center opens

EVERETT -- Officials with Snohomish County's child advocacy center plan to celebrate moving into a new, permanent location at 8 a.m. Wednesday during a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Dawson Place provides services to about 900 children who are victims of sexual and physical abuse. The center was created to coordinate comprehensive services for children and their families, all in one location.
Detectives, medical professionals, prosecutors, victim advocates and others providing services to victims all work under the same roof to limit the stress on the children and their families.
The county has been leasing a building for the center for the past four years. Organizers were able to secure funding from the state and federal government to purchase a permanent location. The new center, located at 1509 California St., will include more room for medical exams and mental health services.
