Limited entry for Samish River chinook fishing

The most popular chinook fishing area on the lower end of the Samish River is private property and, because of substantial hoodlumism, littering and property damage, it will be open only to limited entry this year, by permit.

Kevin John at Holiday Sports in Burlington said a one-day permit is $20 and a season permit is $100, and you can request a permit application form through Samish River Services, P.O. Box 277, Bow, Wash., 98232, or e-mail your request for an application to samishriverguy@aol.com.

John said the property in question runs from Sunset Road to the mouth, on the east side of the river. Part of the west side is also private land, south of the state property, he said.

“I would advise anyone interested in fishing salmon on the Samish to take a drive and check it out,” he said. “There are other closures on the river as well.”

John said he, or most any other staff member at the tackle shop, can answer questions about the Samish salmon fishery and the property closure situation. Call 360-757-4361.
