Pied Piper theater bring kids' classics to Everett stages
Five of the top theaters for families in the United States and Canada will bring their touring shows to Village Theatre as Pied Piper teams up with these productions to present international performance art to youth and their families this season.
"The best part is that all of these nationally touring shows are based on works by well-known children's authors and act as a launching point for theater appreciation as well as a life-long love of reading," said Pied Piper manager Erica Weir, in a statement.
Pied Piper season tickets are $50 for youth under 21 and seniors, and $60 for general audiences. Call 425-257-8600 or go to www.villagetheatre.org.
Based on a Village Theatre press release, here's the Pied Piper 2010-11 season and a bit about each show:
"Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical'': Oct. 30. Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave. Produced by The Kennedy Center Theatre for Young Audiences on Tour. Based on a Caldecott Honor picture book, this adventure story is about a quick trip to the Laundromat that turns hilariously wrong. With songs and a gigantic dancing laundry.
"The Elves & The Shoemaker": Dec. 18. Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. Produced by California Theatre Center. Two elves arrive in the Black Forest to find the shoemaker and his wife living on a shoestring. The elves help out to save the holidays for the couple.
"Giggle, Giggle, Quack": Feb. 12. Everett Civic Auditorium. Produced by Dallas Children's Theatre. On this farm, the animals have their way when the farmer's away and leaves his city-slicker brother in charge. Too bad the farmer's instructions fall into the wrong hands … uh, wings.
"Swimmy, Frederick, Inch by Inch": March 13. Everett Civic Auditorium. Produced by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia. With creative lighting techniques and an original score, this puppet theater comes to life.
"Seussical": April 30. Everett Civic Auditorium. Produced by TheatreworksUSA. The story follows Horton and all the characters from the Jungle of Nool and the teeny, tiny world of the Whos on a journey that tests the tenets of loyalty, family and community.
