The Boeing Co. has named Laura J. Peterson as vice president for state and local government operations in the Northwest region. She will lead the team responsible for Boeing's political and government activities in the region, which includes Washington and Oregon. Peterson previously was vice president for business development and global strategy for Boeing commercial airplanes.

Interstate Batteries distributors and brothers Tom and Vern Allen recently marked a milestone by surpassing 4 million sales of car batteries since they began their business in 1979. Interstate Batteries is at 727 134th St. SW in Everett.

Union Bank's Snohomish branch and the Snohomish Community Food Bank are collecting school supplies for children in need from kindergarten through eighth grade. Among items needed are pencils and colored pencils, crayons and erasers; composition and wide-ruled spiral notebooks; round-tips scissors; white glue; and calculators. Training

Registration is being accepted for fall computer classes at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 3300 58th Ave W in Mountlake Terrace. Classes start as early as Sept. 14 and are offered for beginners and intermediate-level computer users. Classes include computer basics I and II, Internet basics, using e-mail, small-business tools for success and job hunting on the Internet.
