Red Cross assessing fire victims' needs

LYNNWOOD -- The Snohomish County Red Cross today is assessing the needs of victims who lost their homes and belongings in Monday's massive apartment fire in Lynnwood.

The fire, which caused an estimated $3 million in damage, emptied 37 apartment units. Among the victims are many families.

Thirteen people stayed the night at a Red Cross shelter at Trinity Lutheran Church about four blocks from their gutted Lynnview Apartments in the 5800 block of 200th Street SW. Most found other accommodations with friends and family.

"Anybody affected by the fire needs to go to the shelter so we can assess their needs," said Mar Tobiason, a Red Cross spokeswoman.

The shelter is at 6215 196th St. SW.

The Red Cross is providing food and shelter as well as medicines that were lost in the fire. It's also providing money for clothing and other living expenses.

Tobiason said the management company for the Lynnview Apartments has other units available in other buildings.

The Red Cross asks that people wanting to donate blankets and household items wait until the families are in their new units. Financial donations can be made online at www.snohomishcounty.redcross.org.
