Myrna Overstreet has been named to a second term as president of the Everett Symphony board of directors. Overstreet has served on the boards of nonprofit organizations such as Campfire and Imagine Children's Museum. Sarai Fulton, a membership services representative at the Everett Chamber and a former musician in the Everett Youth Symphony, was elected vice president. Matt Ross, controller at Terra Staffing, was appointed treasurer, and George Moffat, a Boeing engineer and symphony musician, was appointed secretary.



Kevin McKay of Lynnwood has been hired by Edmonds Community College as its vice president of finance and operations. McKay, who has served in the interim position since January 2009, is responsible for the college's facilities and capital projects, information technology services, campus safety and security and finance departments. McKay was previously the college's director of information technology.



Dave Charbonneau was recently appointed by Corion Landscape Management as its sales director for Snohomish County. Corion provides landscape maintenance, design and installation services.



Lars Landrie, Justin Fisher and Michael Altobell of Moss Adams Wealth Advisors LLC have been awarded the Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst designation from Fiduciary360. Landrie is a partner with Moss Adams Wealth Advisors in Everett, Fisher is a financial adviser with Moss Adams in Tacoma and Altobell is a financial adviser with Moss Adams in Sacramento. The AIFA designation signifies the ability to perform assessments measuring how well investment fiduciaries are fulfilling their duties to a defined standard of care.

Anniversaries

Hanson's Building Supply of Whidbey Island marked its 30th anniversary Friday with a celebration that included a salmon feed, air show and a dance. Hanson's is the oldest continually run lumberyard on Whidbey Island.

Tourism

Snohomish County is accepting applications from public and nonprofit agencies for lodging-tax tourism grants to create projects that promote tourism and overnight stays in the county. The program is funded through revenue collected from hotel and motel room rentals in Snohomish County. Funds will be available January 2011 and will be awarded on a competitive basis to eligible projects that best demonstrate their ability to draw visitors to Snohomish County. Historically, the average project allocation has been about $5,000. Applications are due in the Economic Development Division offices by 5 p.m. Sept. 27. Training

A 10-day workshop by YWCA's "Pathways to Work," which helps women re-enter the work force, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 to 21 in Shoreline. The workshop is designed for people who have spent at least 10 years as a homemaker not working outside the home. Additional registration openings may be available for others seeking employment. YouthBuild Snohomish County, a grant-funded program hosted by the Workforce Development Council Snohomish County, Center for Career Alternatives, Housing Hope, and local community colleges, will have seven additional information sessions for potential members. YouthBuild Snohomish County, now in its second year, is a 10-month construction training program that offers work in housing construction, an opportunity to complete GEDs at no cost, and help with finding a job after program completion. Aspiring participants must be Potential YouthBuild Snohomish County participants and be between 18 to 24 years old, unemployed or low income and lack a GED. Attendance at an information session, which lasts one hour, is a mandatory first step to program enrollment. Sessions will be held at 3 p.m, today and 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. SW, Stanwood; noon Tuesday and noon Aug. 24 at U-Turn, 3422 Broadway, Everett; 4 p.m, Wednesday and 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Stanwood/Camano Resource Center, 9620 271st St. NW,, Stanwood; and 6 p.m. Thursday at The Station, 8713 271st St. NW, Stanwood;



Training in environmental careers will be available at Edmonds Community College through a Sound Energy Efficiency Development (SEED) grant. The grant will pay tuition, books and fees for students to earn, in two quarters, short certificates in Energy Management at the college. Students in the program will receive help with their job search and will have opportunities to participate in events where they can meet energy employers. The training offer skills to become a residential energy auditor, energy-efficiency technician, commercial-lighting auditor or energy accounting specialist. Classes begin Sept. 20. Small-business fair

HomeStreet Bank's Marysville branch is hosting a Small Business Fair, focusing on encouraging consumers to shop at locally owned businesses, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 10 in the parking lot adjacent to HomeStreet, 1238 State Ave., Marysville. More than 20 small businesses will participate including retail shops, food and a massage practitioner and more.
