Democrats Harper, Berkey hold top two spots for seat

EVERETT – A new tally of primary ballots released this afternoon shows state Sen. Jean Berkey, D-Everett, remains in position to defend her seat this fall.

But Berkey continues to trail Democratic challenger Nick Harper in the updated Snohomish County election returns.

Harper has 4,990 votes to Berkey's 4,744 votes in the new totals. Rod Rieger, who appeared on the ballot as “prefers Conservative Party,” is third with 4,432 votes.

The two candidates with the most votes will face-off in the general election.
