Arlington police chief resigns job
ARLINGTON -- After just 16 months on the job, Arlington Police Chief Robert Sullenberger has resigned his post and plans to leave the city on Sept. 17.
His plans were announced today, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.
Sullenberger joined the police force on April 30, 2009. The city spent $18,000 on its personnel search for Sullenberger.
He plans to return to Boulder County, Colo., where he has accepted a position as a division chief in the county sheriff's office. Before coming to Arlington, Sullenberger was a Boulder deputy chief of police.
"Family medical issues are calling him home," Banfield said. "He's really disappointed that he has to leave. He was really doing a lot of great things."
City officials anticipate that the search for Arlington's next chief will take about three or four months.
